Tavistock, ON,  June 23, 2016 - Tavistock Minor Ball is pleased to announce that Softball Canada’s 2016 U21 Men's Canadian Fastpitch Championship will be held in Tavistock, Ontario on August 2-7.

 

“We, as an association, are thrilled to be hosting this prestigious event.” said Brian Wagler, President of Tavistock Minor Ball.  “To have the very best players from across Canada playing here in small town Tavistock is remarkable.  It’s recognition of all the hard work Tavistock Minor Ball has put into our program and of the volunteers in our local community.”

 

The U21 Men's Canadian Fastpitch Championship is held yearly in August.  Each year it is played in a different center across Canada. 

 

Tavistock Athletics’ coach Kevin Zehr is looking forward to hitting the field with his team.  “We finished 4^th last year in Napanee, Ontario at this championship.  We as a team can’t wait to play here in front of our home town and bring that championship trophy home!”

 

The 2016 U21 Men's Canadian Fastpitch Championship will be played in Tavistock, Ontario on August 2 - 7.  Games will be played at the Queen’s Park and Optimist Park.  Both diamonds will be utilized each day, final schedule is pending.  Ontario teams will have to qualify at an Elimination Tournament being held in Grafton on July 1-3.

Canada has long been considered one of the top Male Fastpitch countries in the World, garnering 11 medals (4 Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze) at the Men's level and 7 more (1 Gold, 2 Silver, 4 Bronze) at the Junior Men's level. Softball Canada's goal is to reinvigorate the Male Fastpitch division to sustain that success.

Since the Male Fastpitch Review Committee was established, several major successes have been achieved in this area, such as the addition of the U14 and U16 Boys Canadian Championships, the inclusion of Men's Softball in the 2017 and 2021 Canada Summer Games, and the Canadian Men's National Team being crowned World and Pan Am Games Champions in 2015.
