USA Softball Junior Menâ€™s National Team goes 2-for-2 in exhibition games

Normal, Ill. â€“ Twenty-one young men from across the United States have traveled to participate in the USA Softball Junior Menâ€™s National Team (JMNT) training camp held this week in Normal, Ill., the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball announced today. Athletes are taking part in practice and a series of exhibition games under the direction of JMNT Head Coach Tim Lyon, and assistant coaches Tyron McKinney, Dan Nessler and Scott Standerfer in order to prepare for the 2016 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Menâ€™s World Championship (JMWC). The JMNT will also travel to Ashland, Ohio for additional exhibition games prior to the JMWC, which will be held in Midland, Mich. at Currie Stadium in Emerson Park.

Exhibition Game One: USA Softball Junior Menâ€™s National Team 4, Walcott Lamplighters 3

In what started out as a back-and-forth battle between Team USA and the Walcott Lamplighters, it was Team USA who outlasted the Lamplighters Saturday at Oâ€™Neil Park Saturday. Although the Lamplighters were the first to plate a run, a solid pitching effort from Zane Chason (Alma, Ga.) and defensive plays were made my Team USA resulting in their first team win. A late fifth-inning spark would ignite both teams to plate two apiece but it was ultimately Team USA who came out on top, 4-3.

Exhibition Game Two: USA Softball Junior Menâ€™s National Team 5, Aurora Dolan & Murphy 2

Team USA returned hot on Saturday night, plating two runs in the first inning after a walk by second baseman Matthew Martin (Myerstown, Pa.), triple by right-fielder Peyton Hall (Prairie du Chien, Wis.) and a single by Brogan Potter (Prairie du Chien, Wis.). Aurora Dolan & Murphy responded with one of their own in the first but was shut down by the JMNT through the next three innings. In the fifth, three JMNT athletes crossed home plate for Team USA after Logan Amend (Vasser, Mich.), Jonathan Broadbear (Bloomington, Ill.) and Kelly Fagan-Beam (Bakersfield, Calif.) extended Team USAâ€™s lead by four. Aurora Dolan & Murphy were able to plate a run in the bottom of the fifth but could not gain traction despite their efforts. Team USA claimed a 5-2 win to close out day two of their training camp.

Both teams are in action again Sunday as the Bloomington Stix Midsummer Classic tournament continues. The first game for Team USA is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. CT against the Circle Tap, while they will face the Bloomington Stix later on at 4:00 p.m. CT.
