Very sad news this week from Erie, PA that Pat Smith, a friend to all in softball, especially men's fastball / fastpitch softball has passed away following a very short illness.
Charles Patrick "Pat" Smith, age 70, of Erie, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017

The two Johns from Waterloo ON first meet Pat and his fastball enthusiast side-kick Tim Maziarz 20+ years ago when the Waterloo Twins annually traveled to the Memorial Day tournament in Erie PA. Pat and Tim were fixtures at the park and enthusiastically welcomed fans from the "great white north" to the weekend of superb senior fastball.
Pat was very personable and had insights into the game that bemused all who would listen. At the 2006 ISC tourney in Kitchener, Pat provided a daily "You Make The Call" question in a version of "Stump The Ump" Â for the Diamond Dirt daily newsletter. Â Â
Pat - Rest in Peace - you will most assuredly be missed at many senior fastball tournaments, especially in August 2018 when Kitchener hosts the event.
Thanks.
John Thompson
