Wellington, NZ - - 2021 Championship bid success
Softball NZ CEO Tony Giles is ecstatic following a successful bid to host the WBSC 2021 Men’s Softball World Championship.
Giles, who is currently attending the WBSC Congress in Botswana, stated "There has been a lot of hard work in preparing the bid and this outcome is testament to the support the organisation has received from both central and local government agencies in collaboration with North Harbour Softball Association in bringing the pinnacle of the men's world game back to our shores".
Giles congratulated the WBSC for their decision by acknowledging incoming Softball President, Tommy Velazquez "for having the courage to support the Oceania softball region and providing an opportunity for New Zealand to again showcase our world-class talent as leaders of the men's game"
WBSC Softball President Mr Tommy Velazquez stated "We look forward to joining our friends in New Zealand for the 17th edition of the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship"
"New Zealand has a strong tradition in Men’s Fastpitch and 2021 is an opportunity for the world's elite players to test themselves" said Velazquez.
2021 will represent just the 4th time New Zealand has hosted the event in 45 years having previously being awarded the 2013, 2004, and 1976 events.
