Perfect 3-0 outing in the circle earns Florida State pitcher Kylee Hanson USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week

OKLAHOMA CITY — A nearly unhittable weekend in the circle has earned Florida State pitcher Kylee Hanson (Jupiter, Fla.) the Week 2 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week, USA Softball announced today. Earning Most Valuable Pitcher at ACC/Big Ten Challenge after helping the Seminoles post a pair of wins over two, Top 25-ranked opponents, Hanson allowed just one unearned run through 11 and two-third innings in the circle.

"This team is electric, our dugout never gets down and everyone is all in,” said Hanson. “It's FUN to pitch for this team. I am so proud of how my team played this weekend; we had a lot of grit and took advantage of our opportunities. And of course, it is an honor to get this award. I just couldn't do it without my teammates and coaches."

In her first appearance of the week, Hanson gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out nine batters in four innings as the Seminoles shutout Florida A&M 9-0 (five inning). Her next start would come against then-No. 14 Minnesota, and Hanson had another outstanding outing in the circle. The redshirt senior gave up just one run in her five innings of work, striking out eight Gopher batters with only two hits allowed. In her final appearance of the week, Hanson got the start against then-T19 Michigan, where she tossed a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts over six and two-third innings.

“I am extremely excited for Kylee,” said Florida State Head Coach, Lonni Alameda. “She's worked really hard and I think the most impressive thing with her is being in graduate school and balancing her schoolwork and game preparation. What a cool honor for her and for this program so early in the season. We'll look for her to continue to grow and are very excited for the rest of the season.”

For the week, Hanson posted a 3-0 record with a 0.00 ERA and 21 strikeouts. She allowed just one unearned run, five hits and four walks through 15 and two-third innings and limited opponents to a .093 batting average.

This marks the first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for an athlete from Florida State since Jessica van der Linden earned the honor in Week Six of the 2004 season.
