Alvinston, ON - - Sr. Aces Win Late
Fans were treated to a back and forth contest in Alvinston on Thursday evening, in game 1 of the SMMFL quarter final best 3 of 5 playoff matchup against Port Stanley.Â

The Aces opened the scoring when Bryan Johnson led off with a single, stole second base, and scored on a 1 out RBI double by Rowan Lam. In the second however, the Port Stanley squad touched up Aces starter Taylor Degraw for three runs, for a 3-1 lead.

Alvinston answered back with a get close run in the bottom of the third, when Johnson walked, Joe Triest singled, and then Johnson scored via a pass ball.Â

With Port Stanley clinging to a 3-2 lead, Alvinston seemingly took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth, as they put up three runs. Lam walked and stole second base, Aaron Stokcing singled to score Lam, Stocking then stole second base, just before Calvin Ritchie singled to score Stocking on a close play at the plate. A sacrifice fly by Degraw would later score Ritchie, as Alvinston went ahead 5-3.Â

After a scoreless sixth inning, Alvinston needed three outs to preserve the win, however, Port Stanley had different ideas. Port Stanley took advantage of two Alvisnton errors, en route scoring three runs, and taking a 6-5 lead. Alvinston needed to score a run in their final at bat, or they would lose. Â

Lam led off with his third walk of the night, and stole second base. Stocking then followed with his second RBI single to score Lam to tie the game. With two out and Stocking at third, Alvinston entered pinch hitter Kevin Morgan into the game, and he promptly singled into the gap, to score the winning run, and give the Alvinston Sr. Aces a walk off 7-6 win in game 1.

Taylor Degraw was the winning pitcher, while Jeff Laidlaw suffered the loss in relief of Scott Lovell.Â
