WBSC partners with Tokyo 2020, IOC to stage 6 Olympic softball games, 1 baseball game in Fukushima
A total of six Olympic softball games and one Olympic baseball game will be staged at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium as part of baseball and softball's historic return to the Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020. The region has been undergoing a continued regeneration following the destructive 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

USA wins WBSC Women's Softball World Championship, earns Tokyo 2020 ticket
USA repeated as Women's Softball World Champions in Chiba, Japan, in front of almost 12,000 fans at ZOZO Marine Stadium. The American team defeated Japan, 7-6, on a walkoff single by Kelsey Stewart in the tenth inning, and went undefeated on the tournament. Canada earned the bronze. USA also secured a berth in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Australia crowned Junior Men's Softball World Champions in Prince Albert, Canada
Australia was crowned Junior Men's Softball World Champions, defeating Japan, 6-1, with a historic performance by pitcher Layton Reid, who tossed a complete game no-hitter to lead his team to victory. New Zealand secured the bronze.

The global event generated a profit of at least CAD$ 150,000, with a local economic impact of approximately CAD$ 10 million (almost US$ 7.6 million), including over 3,000 hotel room nights sold.

USA adds U-15 Baseball World Cup to impressive list of world crowns
Reigning World Champions at the U-12, U-18 and Senior National Team levels, USA claimed their first world title in the history of the U-15 Baseball World Cup, with a 7-1 win over host Panama in front of over 8,000 fans at Estadio Kenny SerracÃn. Chinese Taipei defeated rival Japan, 6-3, to finish third in the world to earn the bronze medal off Ping-En Wu's two-run triple in the fifth inning.

Japan claims sixth straight WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup crown
Japan shut out Chinese Taipei, 6-0, to earn the Title of World Champions. The win extended Japan's World Cup win-streak to an unprecedented 30 games. Japan star Ayami Sato -- considered the top female pitcher in the world -- went five innings in the world championship finale to earn the win and record her third Most Valuable Player (MVP) honour. In the bronze medal match, Canada topped the United States in a thrilling, 8-5, extra-innings victory.

Baseball5 at Youth Olympic Games, continues expansion
After being launched officially in March, Baseball5 is expanding quickly around the globe. The next big step of the new street discipline will be a presentation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October, during the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. Other activites include:
- Over 50 coaches and 140 children from 3 countries took part in Baseball5 sessions in Burundi, during the Friendship Games.
- The 1st Jr. Baseball5 Challenge took place during the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup.
- The Baseball Association of Thailand hosted the first Baseball5 tournament --Â the U-15 Baseball5 Lopburi Championship --Â in the nation with a total of eight teams.
- The French Federation of Baseball and Softball (FFBS) has built a Baseball5 specific field in Montpellier at the CREPS (Centre de Ressources d'Expertise et de Performance Sportive), one of the national sports high performance centres. Â
- The Cuban National Baseball Federation (FCB) and the National Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation (INDER) will also host the Baseball5 International Tournament, Havana 2018. Parallel to this tournament there will be a Baseball5 Clinic for coaches, managers and federations.

Colombia to host U-23 Baseball World Cup following CAC Games success
Amid the excitement of the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, the hosting rights of the U-23 Baseball World Cup 2018 have been awarded to the Colombian Baseball Federation (FCB), in conjunction with the city of Barranquilla and the Atlántico Department.

The newly inaugurated US$ 33 million, 12,000-seat Edgar Renteria Baseball Stadium will serve as the centrepiece of the U-23 Baseball World Cup 2018, and will help to inaugurate new baseball stadiums in Repelón and ManatÃ, which are part of an US$ 8 million investment in sport by Colombia's Atlántico Department. Barranquilla's Santa Marta Baseball Stadium will serve as a main venue. The official venue plan will be confirmed following stadium inspections by the WBSC.

Multi-Sport Games: Baseball, softball compete at Central American and Caribbean Games, Asian Games

Korea captured its third Asian Games Baseball Gold Medal after defeating No. 2 Japan, 3-0, in the finale at the Gelora Bung Karno Baseball Field in Jakarta. With the victory, Korea became the first country to win three consecutive baseball gold medals at the Asian Games. In the Bronze Medal Game, Chinese Taipei defeated China by a score of 10-0, and clinched its seventh overall medal in history, and third bronze.

Undefeated Japan claimed the Gold Medal at the Asian Games Softball competition with a five-inning, 7-0 victory over Chinese Taipei. China earned the bronze.

Puerto Rico secured the Men's Baseball Gold Medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games Barranquilla 2018. This is the first gold for Puerto Rico in the CACG since San Salvador 2002. Cuba claimed the silver, while Colombia earned the bronze.

In the Softball competition, Puerto Rico defeated Mexico, 4-2, to claim the Gold Medal in the Women's Softball competition. A two-run home run off the bat of Aleshia Ocasio in the eighth inning clinched the game for the champions. Cuba earned bronze.

On the Men's side, Cuba defeated Venezuela, 4-2, to claim the Gold Medal. Alberto Hernandez earned the win pitching 6.1 solid innings, while Yesander Rodriguez pushed two runs home. Dominican Republic returned home with the bronze.

WBSC continues growth, adds new Associate Members

The WBSC Executive Board has approved four new Associate Members -- Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), Association Francophone de Baseball et Softball (AFBS), the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) and the Mexican Pacific League (LMP).

Founded in 1951, LIDOM represents the highest level of professional baseball in the Dominican Republic, where baseball is the national sport.
Â
AFBS, also an Associate Member of the Association Francophone des Comités Olympiques, currently comprises 25 national baseball and/or softball federations from 22 nations across all five Olympic continents.

Mexico's top professional baseball leagues, the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) and the Mexican Pacific League (LMP), registered attendances of 4,042,605 and 2,584,328, respectively in 2017.
