The heat was evident during the opening day of the fourth annual USA Softball All-American Games. With the Oklahoma weather boasting feel-like temps above 100 degrees, batters also saw a lot of heat from the circle as dominant pitching ruled the day. With a pair of shutout victories, Region 2 Blue and Region 5 Red each posted a shutout win for the day with Region 2 Blue’s McKayla McGee pitching a no-hitter from the circle.
A total of 91 strikeouts were thrown during day one of the annual girls’ fast pitch event with only one game seeing a double-digit run total by any offense. For Region 4 Blue, the squad pushed across 20 runs in a 20-3 win over Region 7 Blue with the offense combining for 18 hits. Region 4 Blue was led by Lillie Stagner, who had a grand slam in the top of the second inning to give her team a comfortable lead over their opponents.
Four games were decided by two runs or less, with all three winners of the final games of the day holding their opponents to just one run.
Earning wins today were Region 1 Blue, Region 3 White, Region 4 Blue, Region 5 Blue, Region 5 Red, Region 5 White, and Region 6 Red. Day Two of pool play games will continue tomorrow at starting at 8:30 a.m. CT.
