Midland Explorers Update

Midland, MI
Almost to the halfway mark of the season, the Explorers have compiled a 17-4 record, and head into July with a trip to Denmark for the Boys of Summer tournament, followed by the Orillia World Series of Fastball, a weekend of exhibition games in Midland (July 28/29), and finishing the season with the ASA Major National and the ISC World Tournament.
Pitchers Grant Patterson (7-2) and Mike Joseph (9-1) have logged almost all the innings so far, but have some relief coming.
Doug Gillis, anchor of the Explorers staff since 1998, will be back on the mound at the Boys of Summer tournament. A hamstring injury sidelined him for May and part of June, but a successful trip to the World Cup with DeMo EHS of the Netherlands has him ready for the remainder of the season with Midland.
Also, the Explorers are welcoming back another familiar face for the Boys of Summer, ASA Major National, and ISC World Tournament. Pitcher Doug Sleep (St. Johns, MI) will be with the team for those three tournaments. A full-time Explorer in '96 and '97, Doug gives the staff an experienced arm and adds depth to the staff for the stretch run.
The Explorers open pool play in Demark vs. Quad Cities on Friday night continue with a DH vs. Circle Tap and Dolan and Murphy on Saturday.
