Championship Game Follow Up 9th Annual Tom Madl Bob Walsh Memorial Classic
The first 3 innings of this game featured a good pitchers dual between Patsy's Gerald Muizelaar and Kitchener's
Todd Martin. Martin struck out two of three batters in the first two innings and added another one in the third inning.
Muizelaar had given up only one hit after three innings of play. In the 4th, Brad Rona walked and advanced to 2nd on
on a wild pitch, then moved to third on a sacrifice by Travis Wilson. Daniel Milne's fielders choice scored Brad Rona.
Kitchener then answered with with two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead into the 5th. With two outs, Ian Fehrman
singled and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. An RBI single by Steve Mullaley scored Fehrman and another single by
Blair Ezekial moved Fehrman to second, who scored on a Dan Loney single. During the 4th inning, tempers flared a
little bit as a Muizelaar pitch hit a batter but the batter was ruled to have moved the shoulder into the pitch. With a brief
exchange of words by each player, the benches then cleared for just a moment. With order restored, the game continued and the inning ended. Patsy's tied the game at 2-2 in the 5th. With 2 outs, Jeff Hood singled and later
scored on an RBI single by Thomas Makea. The game remained tied until the top of the 7th when Omar Moraga
doubled and scored on a Frank DeGroat single with what would be the go ahead run at 3-2. A 6-4-3 double play ended
the inning for Patsy's. With two outs, Kitchener was able to get a runner as far as 3rd on an error and a fielders choice,
but ground out ended the game with Kitchener on the short end at 3-2. This was the third straight championship
appearance for Kitchener. With the win, Patsy's claimed their 2nd Madl/Walsh title. They had to do so by playing
thru 2 quarter and semifinal games today. The championship game was completed in 2 hours and was televised by
two local cable TV stations (Service Electric Cable TV 2 live and RCN TV 4 on tape delay.
