BRANTFORD, ONT., - Nova Scotia saw its record drop to 1-2 at the 2008 Canadian Midget Boys fast-pitch championship with a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Napanee Express here in Brantford on Monday afternoon.
The Bluenosers once again got off to a shaky start surrendering two runs in each the first and second innings before countering with two of their own in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-2. But that's as close as they could get.
Trent MacDonald of Arisaig went 2-for-4, driving in a run and scoring a run, Patrick Avery of Larry's River added an RBI while going 1-for-3. Kody Blois of Belnan was 1-for-1 at the dish.
Rene d'Entremont of Guysborough suffered the loss lasting just one and one-third innings before White Rock product Justin Schofield came on in relief. Schofield went the rest of the way holding Napanee hitless.
"We're in a position that we have to start picking up some wins," head coach Jeff Fraser of Nine Mile River said. "There is a lot of 1-2 teams around us but we have a big day Tuesday if we want to start down the right track."
N.S. will face Newfoundland and Labrador, playing their third game in less then 24 hours including a 10-inning game Monday afternoon and a night game, at 11 a.m. AST and then the host Brantford Heat in the feature game at 9 p.m. AST.
