FINAL GAME SASKATOON ASPEN INTERIORS VS. JARVIS GAMBLERS
The 1:30 final took place at cold Bob Van Impe Stadium, with a temperature of 11° and a 24 km wind in front of 1800 a pro Aspen fans. The game featured the top two teams of the round robin, with 1st place Jarvis taking the longer route to the final having to play four playoff games to Aspen’s two. The last time they met Aspen won 3-0 in a meaningless affair to finish the round robin for both teams. Starting in the circle for Aspen was preliminary round MVP Trevor Ethier going against Don Scott for Jarvis who was the loser in Jarvis’ first game of the Championship Round. After a scoreless 1st inning, Dean Holoien led off the bottom of the 2nd with a homerun to left. That was all the scoring as in the 3rd Ethier stranded a lead off single by Jeff Ellsworth finishing off the inning by getting the top hitter in the championship round Ian Fehrman who was hitting .665. The bottom of the 5th saw three straight hits including a Darrell Joy homerun chase Scott from the circle bringing in Paul Koert with runners on 1st and 2nd and two out. The inning ended with Dean Holoien at the plate and Keith MacKintosh being tagged out at third base after an attempted steal. In the bottom of the 6th Jarvis looked to get something going as 9th man in the order led off with a single, but Ethier got the heart of the order in Ellsworth, Ryan Thompson and Pat Graham to keep them off the board. The games ended 2-0 very appropriately with a Allan Phibbs strike out. Trevor Ethier got the win givng up three hits and Don Scott took the loss. Den Holoien was named MVP of the Championship round.
