HOUNDS REBOUND FROM THEIR SLUMP
In the first of two games on Thursday night in Garson at the Lorne Brady Park , the Garson Hounds(4-3) came back from a six run defecit to defeat the winless Athletics (0-6) in gaining their fourth victory of the `season with a 11-10 score .The Athletics came out strong and seemed on their way to the victory column for the first time this season by taking a 7-1 lead after three innings of play . The wheels came off in the fourth inning as veteran pitcher , Pat Brennan Sr gave up five runs to make it a seven all tie . At that point John Ainsley came in to relieve Brennan . The Hounds continued their strong hitting in scoring three more runs which the Athletics reciprecated by scoring three of their own . The Hounds scored a key eleventh run in the sixth which turned out to be the winning one. Gary Lamothe (4-3) went all the way in picking up his fourth win of the season on 13 hits , 0 base on balls and 3 strike outs . John Ainsley in relief was tagged with the loss giving up 6 hits ,issuing 3 walks and fanning four batters. Starter Pat Brennan Sr gave up 9 hits , issued no base on balls and struck out 3 batters in his three innings of work ..Eric Ace on a torrid pace since the beginning of the 2009 campaign , went a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate (one three run homer) to bring his average up to 667, in a losing cause for the Athletics . Robbie Edwards hit 2 for 5 including a two run round tripper (his league leading 4th of the season) for the Hounds .
In the nightcap , a much better played game than Monday's tilt between the same two opponents , the Dog House Sportsbar (now 3 and 3)continued their winning ways with a close 5-3 victory over the Parry Island Hawks(now 4 and 3) . The game saw some excellent pitching and defensive plays by both teams . Veteran and crafty Jordy "Swede" Dahlvik(1-0) went the distance for the Dog House in picking up his first victory of the season giving up 9 hits , issuing 0 walks and striking out 5 batters . Matt Tobobundung (3-1) went the distance for the Hawks and was tagged with his first mound loss of the season giving up 9 hits ,issuing 2 base on balls and striking out 2 batters. Jesse St Cyr went a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate for the North Stars while Craig Brown hit 2 for 3 in a losing cause for the Hawks.
League play will resume Monday night in Azilda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park when the Dog House North Stars attempt to continue their winning ways when they face the first place 5 and 1 Pickerel River Cardinals .In the nightcap under the lights , the Sudbury Athletics will once again try to get into the win column for the first time this season when they face the Parry Island Hawks ..
