Canada leads Argentina asrain suspends game at Pan American Championship
(Maracay, Venezuela) – TheCanadian Senior Women’s National Team got off to a great start in their PanAmerican Championship opener Friday night, taking a 4-0 lead over Argentina inthe top of the fourth before the game was suspended due to rain. The game willbe completed on Thursday, August 6th.
Canada got on the boardquickly in the top of the first when Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) walkedfollowed by an infield single by Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, California)before Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, BC) advanced them to second and third witha sacrifice bunt. Jennifer Yee (North Delta, BC) was walked, and Sheena Lawrick(Calgary, AB) also forced a walk to score a run. Kaleigh Rafter (Guelph, ON)then smashed an RBI single to left field to give Canada a 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, MelanieMatthews and Jenn Salling each walked and both scored on a single to right byJennifer Yee to give Canada the 4-0 lead. Through 3 2/3 innings, DanielleLawrie (Langley, BC) had only allowed three hits in the pitcher’s circle.
On Saturday, Canada will takeon Mexico at 4:30pm EDT.
