Owen Sound, ON
The Ontario Amateur Softball Association has confirmed the Owen Sound Selects have been awarded the 2010 Ontario Midget Elimination Fastball Tournament.
The event will be staged at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound June 25th-27th.
In making the confirmation, OASA Secretary Christine Patenaude also stated the Owen Sound bid to host a third straight Canadian Junior Men's Fastball Championship is now in the hands of Softball Canada and a decision will be rendered within a week to 10 days.
Earlier this month, the Selects believed they had the endorsement of the O.A.S.A. to host the Canadian Junior Men's Championship Tournament for a third straight year.
However, OASA President Larry Sherwin confirmed to Bayshore Broadcasting in mid-September that the OASA was witholding their approval of the Owen Sound bid, for the moment, in order to consider other bids from Ontario.
It's also believed that a bid to Softball Canada for the National Junior Championship Tournament from Nova Scotia is pending.
Now, according to Patenaude, the Owen Sound bid has been submitted with the approval of the O.A.S.A. and Owen Sound could be the host center and team for the event which begins August 1st, 2010
