Softball legend Mark Sorenson swapped the bat for the golf club to take a swing at fundraising to raise awareness of a rare genetic condition his son has.
Grayson Sorenson, 12, has fragile X syndrome, a genetic condition that affects one in 4000 people but is carried by about one in 500. Symptoms include developmental delays and intellectual and behavioural problems. It is one of the leading known causes of autism.
"We found out when he was about 4 1/2, because he was not meeting his milestones."
Sorenson organised a charity golf tournament this week at Shandon Golf Club with the aim of raising up to $15,000.
