Memo for the Provincial Umpire-in-Chief
Subject: Provincial Officials Development Committee
Please join me in congratulating the two newest members to the Softball British Columbia Provincial Officials Development Committee, also known as the PODC.
They are Susan Strafford from District 6 and Aaron Poulin from District 9. Both appointees are Softball Canada Level V umpires and are also certified members of the International Softball Federation (ISF).
These two members will carry the title of Provincial Deputy Umpire-in-Chief. Plans are for another two members in the near future, one being Slo-Pitch/Orthodox.
Their duties will involve developing educational materials for the Softball BC umpire’s program, teaching at the Softball BC Mechanics School, assisting with the selection of umpires for Canadian and Western Canadian Championships and, working with the Provincial UIC to ensure that the umpiring program stays current with all the latest rules, mechanics and case plays.
Another major focus of the committee will be to assist the Provincial District Umpires-in-Chief whenever they request help or require assistance with their district responsibilities. Working together will be our major focus for 2012. Top priority will be new umpire recruitment, ways to improve current umpire retention, and providing more education on umpire mechanics.
Congratulations Susan and Aaron!
Respectfully submitted,
