The Great Long Beach Nitehawks and Lakewood Jets rivalry
September 23, 2011
Long Beach, CA
To all you former Western Softball Congress players, managers, sponsors and fans: I would like to write a story about the great rivalry between the Long Beach Nitehawks and Lakewood Jets of southern California.
In the 1970s and '80s (perhaps earlier) those two ISC World Tournament championship teams may have had the greatest rivalry in the history of men's fastpitch softball.
I want this story to be based in memory - YOURS: Maybe you remember a particular game, a particular player or pitcher, a particular tournament that has stood out in your memory.
If so, I'd like to hear about it and include it in the story.
I would like to finish this within two to three weeks, so for you "old timers" tell us your story! (Or if you know of someone involved with the Nitehawks or Jets, please forward this message to them, or give them a call.) The more involved, the better!
It doesn't have to be long, 50 to 75 words will do - just a couple of paragraphs, please.
Just email me your memories of that great rivalry and we will put the story together.
Three people who have already committed are, Milt Stark, Ronnie Rupp, and Hice Stiles...but we need more!
Thank you,
Bob Otto
