Northern Illinois ISC Travel League Championship Weekend
The championship weekend of the Northern Illinois ISC Travel League will be held at the Thomson Ball Park over the upcoming weekend.
A total of 6 teams will be visiting Thomson to play in the showcase of what has been an exciting league. The winner of the league championship is entitled to direct entry into the 2007 International Softball Congress World Tournament in Kitchener, Ontario. The remainder of pool play for the league will take place over Friday and Saturday with the top four team qualifying for tournament action on the Sunday.
Home team the Thomson Merchants, entering the weekend with a 3-1 record to date in the league, will be in action on Friday night versus the De Kelb Hustle Hogs at 7.15pm and 9pm. On Saturday all 6 teams will take the diamond with play expected between 9.30am and 7.30pm. The feature game of the day promises to be the battle between Thomson and league favorites Dolan and Murphy Shamrocks, from Aurora at 2.45pm. This match will have a big international presence with Thomson's Czech Republic pitcher Jonas Mach, and New Zealand hitter Casey Eden, battling with Argentine pitcher Juan Potolicchio and powerful Australian Andrew Havercroft. Semi finals on Sunday are set down for 10am and 11.45am with the Championship starting at 1.30pm.
Entry is free so come down to the park to see world class softball return to Thomson. The Thomson mens team will also be hosting a coaching clinic for all ages of children between 10am and 12pm on Saturday morning. Contact Scott Glazier for more information on this clinic.
