Canada wins bids to host the World in 2014 and 2015

(Oklahoma City, OK) At the just concluded International Softball Federation (ISF) Congress in Oklahoma City this past weekend, Softball Canada was successful in being awarded two upcoming ISF World Championships - the 2014 ISF Junior Men`s World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon and the 2015 ISF Senior Men`s World Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The 2014 ISF Junior Men's World Championship has been awarded to Whitehorse, Yukon and will be hosted by Softball Yukon. Whitehorse had previously successfully hosted the same event in 2008 and will also be hosting the 2012 ISF Senior Women's World Championship from July 13-22, 2012. Parana, Argentina will be hosting the Junior Men's World Championship in 2012. Canada won a silver medal at the last event in 2008.

The 2015 ISF Senior Men's World Championships will be going to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and will be hosted by the Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association. Saskatoon had previously hosted the 2009 version of this same event, to great reviews, and was also the host of the 2002 ISF Senior Women's World Championships. New Zealand will host the Senior Men's World Championship in 2013. Canada won a bronze medal at the previous World Championship in 2009.

'We are delighted that the international softball membership has entrusted us to host these two championships' said Softball Canada President Kevin Quinn. 'Both Whitehorse and Saskatoon are experienced hosts that have proven their ability to put on great events and combine that with warm hospitality for visitors.'

During the same meeting at the ISF Congress, the 2014 ISF Senior Women's World Championships was awarded to Haarlem, Netherlands.

The ISF is currently seeking bids for both the 2013 and 2015 ISF Junior Women's World Championships. Both of these events will be held in a new format, open to all countries.

As of 2012, all Junior and Senior World Championships are now held on a two-year cycle.
