Elkland, PA
The NY Safari Swashbucklers went 3-2 in the first
MAFTL session over the weekend in Elkland, PA. They opened the weekend with an 11-10 walkoff victory against PA Power, backed by the relief effort of Justin Zimmerman (3 RBI’s) and a walk-off single by Lou Kass. In Game 2, homeruns by Jerlyn “Dirty” Rutt and Steve Schwartz supported the strong pitching of Rutt and led the Swash to a 7-2 victory over the ESA Belly’s. Game 3 was a battle with the NY Bombers with an ISC bid on the line. Josh Horton tied the game 1-1 with a solo HR late but the Bombers picked up two late runs to eke out the 3-1 victory. Duane Weiler pitched well in the loss. Sunday’s single elimination saw Swash open up with a 11-4 mercy rule win over Aqua Merchants. Mike Bourbakis and Josh Horton each homered twice and Zimmerman picked up his second win of the weekend. This set up a semifinal showdown against Brian Newton and the NY/NJ squad. After falling behind 2-0, the Swashbucklers tied it up at 2 in the top of the 6
th courtesy of a two-out two run single by Steve Mullady off of Newton. NY/NJ, however, bounced back with back to back HR’s in the bottom of the 6
th and Jeremy Tracy picked up the win in relief to knock the Swashbucklers out.
The NY Safari Swashbucklers have a weekend off before heading up to Stevens, PA for the Rodney Fox Invitational and the black and yellow debut of star pitcher Jonas Mach.
