MORE ON THE JUNIOR LEAGUE
The Junior AllStars make up the 12th seed in this tournament..
Here is the final standings for the Junior loop, just finishing up their first year..
Stratford - 11 wins and 5 losses....103 runs for, 63 runs against, leading the league in both categories
Elmira - 8 and 6, 91 runs for and 86 allowed
New Hamburg at 6 and 7, 74 runs for and 70 against
St Mary's 5 and 6, with the lowest run production at 62 and the 2nd best defence allowing just 66
and Tavistock 4 - 10...3rd in scoring with 87 runs, but allowed 112..
Stratford, St Mary's and Tavistock did well at the ISC U21 in Midland this year.
Murray Patterson of Stratford ( murraypatterson@wightman.ca ) feels that the league got off to a great start this year, and believes that it will expand by one or two teams next summer...
Great job and congratulations to all involved in this startup, looking forward to year two.
KFL GAME(S) OF THE WEEK
Last week I watched the Waterloo Classics (12 - 7 ) do down in defeat to Bridgeport/Bell Cartage (11 - 7 - 1) (ties stand) in KFL playoff action at Budd Park.
Bell Cartage was ahead by 4 runs after a half inning. The Classics struggled back and loaded the bases for Jodie Schnarr's grand slammer. Bell Cartage replied with a couple of base hits, a hit by pitch and a couple more runs to retake the lead, win the game and to go to the next KFL round.
Last nite it was the Diamond Jaxx (17 - 2) eliminating the Kitchener Smoke (10 - 8 -1) ...The Diamond Jaxx had lost only two games this year, both to the Classics. (stats from Don Barr) The Smoke would advance to the next playoff round with a win...The Jaxx went up 2 - 0 early and held on to the bottom of the 7th...
The Smoke loaded the bases with 1 out...but could not cash the runners, a strike out and a 5 - 3 at first to complete the game...
Blue Crew of TimWhitelaw and Rick Boyd were excellant...(hope that gets me a convenient appointment time for my Jeep's next lube oil and filter at Byma Tire...
Diamond Jaxx to the next round..to play Bell Cartage/Bridgeport Thursday (tonite) then Monday and Tuesday next week...in other playoffs in the KFL....the Kings (11 - 4 - 4) up against the Red Divsion leading Tri City Jays (15 - 3 - 1)
Convert those 4 ties to wins for the Kings and they lead their division.
See you next week at beautiful Budd Park, more KFL playoff action....
BTW...I heard that Marg Ryan was in the hospital but has returned home, best wishes from everyone at the KFL game Marg...Don Barr, Earl and MaryAnn, Kelly Ertel, Matt Allen, Sam Forbes, Dana Seiling, and the rest of the gang here in Kitchener-Waterloo...and all your fastpitch friends....
And catching up on another of fastpitch's favourite fans..Betty Moncrief told me in Midland Michigan a couple of weeks ago that her lawn chair is still missing...
Eric Legge has his chair...where is Betty's????
