Kayla’s standout in Durham’s 2012 home opener

OCAA Women’s Fastball – Durham defeated St. Clair 5-1

OSHAWA, Ont. – Kayla MacLean and Kayla Worotniak played key roles in Durham College’s 5-1 victory over the St. Clair Saints in OCAA women’s fastball action on Sunday afternoon.

Kayla MacLean pitched 6.2 innings in the win, allowing one earned run on eight hits while striking out five.

Kayla Worotniak had a great game at the plate, as she belted a three-run inside the park home run to get the Lords on the board in the second inning. The Lloydminster, Alta. native finished with four RBI’s.

The Lords left side of the infield consisting of Melissa Semeniuk and Samantha Officer each had multi-hit games as they combined to go 4-for-6 with a run and an RBI.

With the Lords holding a 5-1 in the top of the seventh, St. Clair made a late surge as they had the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate. Freshman pitcher Lydia Kalbfleisch forced a ground out to end the game and to pick up her first save of the season.

Jessica Russo led St. Clair at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Lords improve to 2-0 and will have two road games this week against Conestoga (Tuesday) and Mohawk (Thursday).

Durham will host the CAN-AM Classic from September 22-23 at Durham College Field.
