Softball Canada Looking for Two International Teams for U21 Men’s Tournament

(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is looking for two international club teams to compete at the U21 Men’s International Fastpitch Championship, which will take place from July 9-14, 2013 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The tournament will feature 11 Canadian provincial/territorial teams as well as a club team from New Zealand, who have all confirmed participation for the event. The deadline for other international teams to apply is February 22nd, 2013.

This tournament will showcase young and upcoming softball talent from the continent, in hopes to further promote the sport and offer the opportunity for elite players to develop relationships with players from other provinces and countries. Softball Canada is recognized by the International Softball Federation and Government of Canada as the exclusive national sport governing body for softball in Canada.

In the spirit of the event to foster friendship and a competitive atmosphere, we are inviting two more teams from International countries. Softball Canada will be providing all teams, free of charge, with accommodations, meals and ground transportation to and from the playing facilities from July 9 to July 14. There is an entry fee of $1,500 USD which is fully refundable upon the completion of all games at the tournament. The format will place the 14 teams into two divisions of seven and will guarantee each team six games in the round robin, with the top eight teams advancing to the playoffs and the remaining teams will play in a consolation bracket.

For the championship, each team will be allowed a roster of 17 players and three coaches. All players must be under 21 years of age, prior to January 1st of 2013. This would mean that players should be born in 1992 or later. All Canadian teams will be representing their respective Province or Territory. International Teams can be regional, state or top-level club teams. Please provide a background of your team’s history when applying.

The U21 International Men’s Softball Championships will be hosted in the City of Saskatoon. Saskatoon, situated along the South Saskatchewan River, is Saskatchewan’s largest urban centre and the fastest growing city in Canada with over 250,000 residents. Saskatoon’s well known hospitality ensures the teams, officials and dignitaries will receive a warm Saskatchewan welcome. The City’s excellent facilities combined with world class attractions, quick and efficient local transport will ensure team’s and fans get everywhere they need to, easily and promptly. For decades, softball events hosted in Saskatoon have united this sport-passionate community and have brought generations of fans together. Getting to Saskatoon has never being easier with flight services served by the national and international air carrier system to John G. Diefenbaker International Airport.
