Thank-you for putting your support in me as your new incoming President in 2014. I am thrilled about working with a great incoming Executive and look forward to an exciting year of fastball ahead of us.
I want to thank Past President Roy Patenaude for the great job he has done for the OASA over the past 2 years. Christine Patenaude also has to be recognized for her tireless effort as our past Secretary.

2014 TOURNAMENTS
We are still looking for some tournament hosts for our 2014
Provincial Championships. The OASA encourages interested communities to go our OASA website at <a 2014 SPRINGBOARDS
The OASA is looking to expand this successful program to more sites in 2014. Springboards are a Long Term Player Development Plan event which the OASA provides outreach in areas of new growth or renewed interest.
They offer an excellent opportunity for your organization to offer skill development, coaching sessions and umpire forums to young athletes and members of your association. They are a real opportunity to get your program started at a minimal cost, regardless of your location.
Certified Team Ontario coaches and Team Canada players along with CANpitch pitching instructors provide skill instruction in a fun oriented clinic. Softball Ontario also provides all of the current grant and program information that is available to you to develop your softball program
If you are interested please contact:
Garry Waugh,
45 Earlscourt Crescent,
Woodstock, On
N4S 5H2

Phone 519-537-5835
e-mail gwaugh@execulink.com

OASA Insurance
Team Insurance provided by Pearson and Dunn is now available by contacting Ron or Sharon Taylor ( 705-778-2637 ) or downloading the application forms from the OASA website at www.oasa.ca. For other fundraising events liquor liability insurance is also available

Change
Since 2004 our male fastball numbers have dropped one-third in Ontario. This is relative to the drop in other provinces across Canada,. Ontario still has the largest number of male players on a provincial basis.
Starting in 2014, Softball Canada has created a Male Fastpitch review committee to address this concern. The male Fastpitch game is under review and needs new direction to find ways to rebound back. At the recent Softball Canada AGM a workshop was held to gather new ideas and look at ways to get the male side of the game growing again. Hopefully some good changes come our way from this Softball Canada led committee.
One of the changes we will see is a Canadian Masters Championship that will be held during the same week as the Senior Canadians in P.E.I. A U16 Canadian Championship is also being planned for 2014 in New Brunswick
Our Men’s committee is also looking at ways to expand our Intermediate B/C Provincial Championships in to 3 or more Regional Competitions to involve more teams. Our minor committee is looking at ways to involve more ORSA teams in our provincials at the request of the ORSA.

The OASA Executive is looking forward to working with our teams, associations, hosts and sponsors in the upcoming year. As mentioned our Minor and Men’s committees are organizing and having meetings to make plans for their upcoming tournaments.
The OASA has enjoyed working with the many fastball communities in the past and look forward to your continued participation in 2014.

If I can be of further assistance you can contact me at
519-583-3544
georgeryder@bell.net

Thanks

George Ryder
OASA President
|
