Well folks the weather is "slowly" turning towards fastball season here in Southwestern Ontario and Tavistock is again well into preparations for their annual July Classic.
We are pleased to announce that the tournament field is now finalized. The competition at this year's event should prove to be as intense and exciting as we have seen to date in Tavistock. The defending World Champion Hill United Chiefs and the ISC Host squad, the Kitchener Hallman Twins, headline a list of perennial contenders and upstarts that should keep the crowd in their seats until the final out on Sunday. Joining the Chiefs and Twins this year will be the local favourites, the Shakespeare Falcons, as well as the always tough Kitchener Cubs, Kitchener Outlaws, Wiarton Nationals, Elmira Expos, and the Sweaburg Crush. Rounding out the field will be the re-vamped Toronto Gators and Scarborough Force. Both of these squads have made significant roster additions for 2014 and figure to be in the mix both in Tavistock in July, as well as in Kitchener mid August. Our tournament committee could not be more thrilled with the teams that we will host this year and we can't wait for the opening pitch.
As has always been the tradition at our event, we strive to make this weekend about fastball and much, much more. Again this year our annual "festival" will include live music in the beverage tent. Our Minor Ball players and families will be on hand all weekend working the gates, maintaining the diamonds, rustling up the bbq delights and selling our raffle and 50/50 draw tickets.
We will again be hosting our Annual Minor Softball All Star Game with the Pee Wee age group being featured this year on the main diamond on Saturday afternoon. It's Always great to see the stars of tomorrow's game sharing the stage with the stars of today's game, so you won't want to miss this action as well.
Camping will again be available for a nominal fee for the weekend. Please email "davebailey@baileyconstruction.ca" to confirm your intentions to camp on the grounds.
Look for the tournament schedule to be out around mid-June. There will be two games played as always on the Thursday night (July 10th @ Queens Park) with a full slate of games on both diamonds (Queens Park and Optimist Park) beginning Friday at 5:00pm. Action continues all day Saturday and evening with Semi finals and the Championship Final scheduled for Sunday.
We look forward to having the opportunity yet again to host many of the finest fastball players and fans in the World for a memorable weekend in Tavistock.
