Lake Simcoe and Scarborough Tied in OCDFL Final

After two games the Scarborough Athletics and Lake Simcoe Lightning find themselves even at one game a piece in the Oshawa City and District Fastball League finals.Â

The series began Tuesday night in Scarborough with the Lightning surprising the hometown side 8-0 in a 5 inning affair that saw Chris VanVolkenburg no hit the Athletics, giving up just 2 walks to blemish an otherwise perfect evening.

On offense John Zeiger and Todd Hamblin each drove in 3 runs ‎off Scarborough starter Grant Patterson to help Lake Simcoe take the opening game of the series.Â

Wednesday night the series moved north up the 404 to Sharon for game 2. In a tightly contested affair the Athletics were able to even the series at 1 with a 3-2 win.Â

Both pitchers were on there game with neither team getting in the hits column until the 6th inning when VanVolkenburg's hitless streak was stopped at 10 2/3. With two out in the 6th Andrew Scott blooped a changeup into shallow right field to put the Athletics up 1-0 with their first hit of the series scoring Keegan McTiernan who led off the inning with a walk. Â Andy Skelton continued to dominate the Lightning batters giving up only a Brad Fogal walk through 6 innings.Â

Scarborough put 2 more runs on the board in the 7th when Aaron Fraser blasted a homerun well over the fence in center to put the A's up 3-0. Â In the home half of the inning the inning the Lightning attempted to make a comeback. After a leadoff triple by Andy Harris, Joel Langford crushed a 2 out homerun bringing the homeside within one. After giving up a single to Dan Miller in the next at bat, Skelton struck out Fogal to end the game.Â

The OCDFL Final continues next week with game 3 at 8pm in Scarborough at L'Amoreaux Park before returning to Sharon for game 4 on Wednesday. Game 5 if necessary will also be in Sharon on October 7th.
