ACT dominated all aspects of the game as they defeated NSW 9-0 to win their fifth consecutive John Reid Shield and ninth Men’s Softball National Championship in 10 years. Adam Folkard showed why he is rated the world’s best pitcher throwing a three hit shutout that included 10 strike outs and was named the Player of the Grand Final for the third consecutive year. Â
ACT opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with Andrew Kirkpatrick hitting a bases loaded single driving in two runs, the only runs the ACT would need. Leading 3-0 going into the bottom of the 4th, the 89ers scored two more runs before Zenon Winters launched two-out grand slam to complete the scoring. Adam Folkard Struck out the side to close out the complete game win.
Earlier in the day NSW defeated hosts QLD 7-3 in the semi-final to earn the finals birth. Victoria defeated South Australia in the 5v6 playoff game.
