It took a while to get the job done, but more than a month after capturing 1st place in the Pickering Men's Fastball League "The Sting" finally culminated a successful season when they were crowned last night as 2006 playoff champions. With rain plaguing the playing of many games the league went to a doubleheader format to try and get it finished. In last week's two of three semi-finals the Sting survived a 4-3 scare against a very determined Somcan crew anchored by pitching legend Rod Cormier, before flexing their offensive muscles in the second game with a sound 9-4 win. Last night in what was to be a two out of three finals pitting the Sting against DD4U, the Sting ended it by winning both ends of the doubleheader 2-0 and 8-1. Kudos to a pitching staff that consisted of wile veteran Gary Latchford, Glen Sellars and big Paul "Beej" Foucault, and to the hard playing guys behind them, Craig Sarson, Mark Thompson, Greg Lumley, Mike O'Hearn, J.C. Boisvert, Michel Boisvert, Steve Mo, Bob Haddow, Matt Smith, Bass, and coach Mike Racioppo. Congratulations boys on a fine season and like a wise old man said toasted night, remember and enjoy these moments cause you never know when it may be your last championship.
O'Hearn, Mike
