Highlights from Day Three

Mexico 4, Chinese Taipei 1

Paola Acosta brought home the winning run to give Mexico the lead in the sixth inning as Mexico hung on to beat Chinese Taipei 4-1.  Mexico relied on Cielo Meza from the circle en route to the win, who only gave up one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out five over her seven innings of work.

Kai Han Yang was charged with the loss for Chinese Taipei, issuing two walks while allowing four earned runs.

Puerto Rico 4, Australia 1

An outstanding effort by Meghan King carried Puerto Rico to a 4-1 win in nine innings over Australia.  King pitched the complete game, allowing no earned runs through nine innings of work.

Australia had the lead early, but couldn't hang on for the win against Puerto Rico. Australia took the lead in the bottom of the third but Puerto Rico responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth.  With the game tied up at one, the game went into extra innings and international tiebreaker (ITB) rules came into effect. Shemiah Sanchez did her best to jumpstart the offense for Puerto Rico, reaching base three times while scoring twice with one RBI. She homered in the fourth inning to tie up the game and scored the final run of the game in the top of the ninth.

Despite the loss, Australia's Amelia Cudicio dominated Puerto Rico's batters, giving up three runs and striking out 11.

Chinese Taipei 2, Czech Republic 0

Czech Republic wasn't able to score a run off of Ya Ting Tu as Chinese Taipei took home the win 2-0.  Tu struck out two and allowed no walks and four hits through her seven innings of work.

Veronika Pecknova was the game's losing pitcher. She lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out 11 and allowed two runs.

Chinese Taipei got on top in the bottom of the third inning when Chieh Yu Wu scored on a passed ball.  Chinese Taipei would add another run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Chia Ching Shih to give them the eventual 2-0 win.

Mexico 6, Italy 5 (nine innings)

A walk-off error from Maria Marrojo brought home the winning run for Mexico in a 6-5 (nine inning) victory over Italy.  Yeraldin Carrion had an impressive outing against Italy's lineup as Italy managed just two hit.  For the night, Carrion allowed one earned run, walked five and struck out 12 during her nine innings of work.

Paola Acosta got on base two times in the game for Mexico, scoring one run and while collecting one RBI. She also tripled in the sixth inning.  Italy was hurt by a number of miscues in the field, committing seven errors which led to four unearned runs for Mexico.

Laura Bigatton was charged with the loss, lasting just one inning with three runs allowed.
