The OIWFA announces its first Shoeless Joe’s Athlete of the Week presented by Softball Canada. This year, the OIWFA has partnered with Shoeless Joe’s of Napanee, host site of the Provincial Championships from October 16-18. Each week, the top athletes in the OIWFA will be highlighted for their outstanding on-field contributions and receive a $10 off a minimum $30 order coupon at any Shoeless Joe’s in Ontario and also receive a commemorative Softball Canada 50th Anniversary t-shirt.

This week’s Athlete of the Week are Amy Campagnolo of the Laurier Golden Hawks and Taylor Bluhm of the Queen’s Gaels.

Amy Campagnolo was nearly lights out in week 1 of the OIWFA season for the Golden Hawks. Throwing a no-hitter in the season opener against the Windsor Lancers, while striking out 9, she also helped out her own cause going 1-3 with two RBIs. Campagnolo picked up her second win of the weekend on Saturday against the Varsity Blues of Toronto, throwing another 5 complete shutout innings until Toronto finally scored in the 6th. Campagnolo notched another two RBIs helping her offensive weekend. Amy then captured her third win and second shutout of the weekend on Sunday against the Guelph Gryphons, throwing 7 strong and striking out another 7.

Over six games, Campagnolo captured 3 wins on the mound along with one save and 4 RBIs.

Taylor Bluhm had a very strong weekend both at the plate and on the mound for the Gaels. In the first game versus McMaster, Bluhm stepped up to the plate with two out and the bases loaded in a tie game. Bluhm hit a three-run triple to give Queen’s the three-run lead to win the game. In the second game, Bluhm pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts. Bluhm helped the Gaels offense build momentum in the second game by adding two singles.
