Stanton into the International Softball Hall of Fame

------------------------------------------------------------
(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is pleased to announce that Bob Stanton (Fredericton, New Brunswick) has been selected to enter the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Softball Hall of Fame in the administrator/Organizer category. The announcement came at the recently concluded WBSC – Softball Division Meetings in Oklahoma City.

Stanton’s background in softball began in Saint John, New Brunswick as a player, coach and team manager, before taking up umpiring in 1983. He quickly worked his way through the 1985 Canada Summer Games and various Canadian Championships before receiving his level V status and receiving various international assignments, including the 1999 Pan-American Games in Winnipeg.

Off the field Bob served as Softball New Brunswick’s Umpire in Chief from 1990-98, supervised 11 Canadian Championships, and became Softball Canada’s National Director of Umpires from 2004-08.

Internationally Bob was appointed Regional Umpire in chief for North America in 2005, was subsequently appointed International Softball Federation Deputy Director of Umpires in 2006 and has been their Director of Umpires since 2008. During that period he supervised at 12 World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games.

Bob has travelled the World to attend meetings, championships, to give clinics and provide support to umpires. His leadership has seen umpire programs grow and umpires be given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Kevin Quinn (Charlottetown, PEI), President of Softball Canada, stated, “Bob Stanton is a tremendous ambassador for Softball Canada’s and the WBSC’s officiating programs. Bob works tremendously hard at all times, is very organized and is well respected around the world. I have worked numerous World Championships with Bob and he is extremely knowledgeable, very approachable and very well spoken. He is truly deserving of the honour of going into the WBSC Softball Hall Of Fame. Congratulations Bob.”

Details regarding the timing and location of the actual induction ceremony will be confirmed in the coming months.
