2015 Softball Canada Annual General Meeting Recap

The 2015 Softball Canada Annual General Meeting and 50th Anniversary Celebration was held November 12-14 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the location where Softball Canada was formed in 1965. Representatives from the Provincial and Territorial Associations and several special guests attended the event, featuring several great workshops and discussions on how to improve the sport throughout the country with plenty of focus on celebrating Softball Canada’s 50 years of existence.

Softball Canada Hall of Fame

Nominations for athletes, coaches, officials, builders and teams for induction into Softball Canada’s Hall of Fame are being accepted until April 1, 2016. A maximum of five (5) new members will be chosen to be inducted on Saturday, November 12th during Softball Canada’s Annual General Meeting in Whitehorse, Yukon.

J5L Memorial Golf Tournament

Earlier this year, Men’s National Team Athlete Pool member Joel Langford (Orleans, ON) passed away. His friends and family established the J5L Memorial Golf Tournament in his memory, raising a whopping total of $15,034 for the Do It For Daron foundation. The money will support their important work of transforming youth mental health.

Softball Promotion and Development Throughout Quebec!

Submitted by Geneviève Houle - In 2014, Softball Quebec started using the Experience Softball tent to help the development of softball in its regions. There are multiple goals for these activities from introducing the sport in general to make people aware of the services offered by the federation. In 2015, we wanted to continue to spread the activities that come with the Experience Softball tent but we more specifically wanted to put more emphasis on the Lear to Play partnership with Softball Canada and Tim Hortons. Youth are the future of the sport which is why we are looking for all possible ways to get in touch with them.

U10 Festival… PRICELESS!!

Submitted by Jacqueline Eiwanger - Mother Nature was kind this year and we were able to host our first U10 Festival on June 6 & 7, in Regina, SK. We had 16 teams register from across southern Saskatchewan. Each team had three games on Saturday and a session in the Skill Zone and two games on Sunday and a session in the FUN Zone. We are opening up hosting of this U10 Festival to all Associations in 2016!
