Rex Marquardt Memorial Tournament.- July 1-3, 2016 - Petoskey, MI

4th of July weekend tournament in Petoskey. This year will be our 46th annual Holiday Invitational that was later renamed to be the Rex Marquardt Memorial tournament. Rex was one of the three original tournament coordinators in Petoskey along with Ed White and Dick Harbaugh who ran tournaments at the waterfront in Petoskey since 1970. We have been able to maintain the fastpitch softball tradition in Petoskey by hosting 5-9 weekend tournaments annually. Specific information for this year's tournament can be found at the following link: http://masad21.org/marquardt.html This is a 4 game guarantee, round robin tournament, limited to 5 teams that runs from Friday PM thru early Sunday afternoon. The top two teams from round robin competition have a one game playoff for the championship. Entry fee is $400. Prizes include a champion and runner-up plaque, individual awards for outstanding pitcher, hitter, infielder and outfielder.

This year's committed teams include Lightning from Marshall, Thunder from Battle Creek and Circle Tap from Wisconsin. The tournament is for Major, A or B teams. We are hoping that some of the upper level teams may be interested in coming to Petoskey to enjoy a weekend of fast pitch softball. We are only looking for 2 additional teams but if there were 3 that were really interested, we could expand the round robin bracket to six teams. All games are played at Ed White Field at Bayfront Park in Petoskey - aka "The Waterfront".

Here is a video summary of the championship game from the 4th of July tourney in 2011 to get a view of the ballpark:

Here are some pictures of the ballpark in Petoskey:

a drone's view from summer of 2015

someone used a painting app on this picture but the sunset was pretty spectacular without the additions

trees and scoreboard behind the right center field fence with shaded seating for spectators

behind the fence in left center is a narrow walk way, rock barrier and then Lake Michigan

Midland Explorer Legends from 2015 with a view toward the left field side

Sunday morning before players have arrived

Crowds along the left field line staying out of the bleachers from 3rd to 1st

Frequent sunsets that have caused a player to miss a pitch and umpire as well...

If teams are interested, they can contact me through my website at www.masad21.org or email me at scott@masad21.org.

Thanks for your help in getting the word out about our majestic ballpark located on the shores of Lake Michigan 40 minutes south of the Mackinaw Bridge.
