Record book weekend earns Troy's Hannah Day USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week honors

OKLAHOMA CITY — Following a record-tying performance at the plate, Troy's Hannah Day (Crestview, Fla.) has been selected as the Week 6 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Week, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball announced today. A senior outfielder, Day hit .812 (13-for-16) with 20 RBI, six home runs and three doubles over a four-game stretch last week while tying an NCAA record with 16 total bases. This marks the first USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week honors for Day, who also garnered Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week accolades for her performance.

"I'm extremely honored and humbled to have received this award," said Day. "We came into this week very focused and prepared to compete each pitch and the results showed for our team as a whole. None of this would have been possible without each of my teammates and my coaches."

Day had at least one hit in all four games for the Trojans while posting multi-RBI games in three of the four games on the week. In Troy's first game of the week, Day had a 1-for-2 performance in the batter's box, picking up an RBI while scoring once in an 11-2 win. In a Sun Belt Conference series on the road at Appalachian State, Day ramped up her offensive performance, starting in game one of the series where the senior was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one home run, four RBI and two runs scored twice. The right fielder was perfect again in a 5-for-5 showing with three home runs, two doubles and nine RBI in game two of the series at Appalachian State. At the time, she tied the NCAA record for total bases in a game with 16 and set or tied Troy single-game records for home runs and RBI. The senior followed that performance with a 4-for-6 game in the series finale with two home runs, a double, a single and six RBI.

"What a great honor for both Hannah and Troy softball," said Troy Head Coach Beth Mullins. "Hannah is a special player and competitor and she has worked really hard to help her teammates and this program be successful."

For the week, Day hit .812 (13-for-16) with 20 RBI, six home runs and three doubles, while amassing a 2.125 slugging percentage. She also posted an .842 on-base percentage and scored 12 runs.

This is the first USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week honors for an athlete from Troy, who will return to the diamond on Friday for another Sun Belt Conference series against No. 5 Louisiana-Lafayette.
