WBSC World Rankings

The World Baseball Softball Confederation recently launched the first-ever World Rankings for Men’s and Women’s Softball. The newly implemented world ranking system tracks the performance of a country’s National Team in the Softball World Championships, including junior and top-tier levels, over a three-year period.

WBSC Women’s World Softball Championship

The World Baseball Softball Confederation has released the list of nations and pools for the WBSC Women’s World Softball Championship that will be held July 15-24 in Surrey, BC. A record 31 teams will be competing at the event, bringing together the world's top softball athletes from all five regions and representing the largest global footprint in the event's history as eleven nations will be making their women's world championship debuts.

University/College Corner

A large amount of Canadian athletes continue their softball careers at the university/collegiate level. Out of the 42 players in Softball Canada’s Women’s National Team Athlete Pool, 17 are currently competing at the university/collegiate level.

Men’s National Team Awards

The Men’s National Team had its best year ever in 2015 by winning the WBSC Men’s World Softball Championship in Saskatoon and the Pan American Games in Toronto, leading to several athletes being honoured in their local communities across the country.

WBSC Junior Men’s World Championship

Preparations are well under way for the 2016 WBSC Junior Men’s World Championship that will be held July 24-30 in Midland, Michigan. The Canadian Junior Men’s National Team Athlete Pool is going through their off-season training program and will be competing for roster spots at a Selection Camp from June 2 to 5 in Kitchener, Ontario. The Coaching Staff will be naming the roster following that camp, and the team will assemble for a training camp July 13-17 prior to travelling to Midland for the World Championship.

2017 World Masters Games

The countdown is on for the World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand, taking place 21-30 April 2017, where Softball will be one of 28 sports played across 45 competition venues.

2016 Blue Convention Summary

Softball Canada Announces 2016-17 Ed Bitz Scholarship Winners

Softball Canada is pleased to announce that Jayme Menard (Winnipeg, MB) and Francais Olexa (Delta, BC) are the recipients of Ed Bitz Scholarships for the 2016-17 academic year. The Ed Bitz Scholarship recognizes young Softball Canada umpires who have demonstrated a commitment to the sport and to their pursuit of post-secondary academics through two $1,000 awards each academic year.
