Many of you know that I have been working, for some time, on a peer reviewed research article examining the organizational structures of the ASA to the Australian Softball Federation.   Well the long wait is now over and the article appeared in the October Issue of the International Journal of Sport Management.
The title of the article is: Addressing the Declining Participation Rates in the United States Men's Fastpitch Softball: Do International Governance and Organizational Structures Provide the Answers.

Again, for those not familiar with the peer review process is that it does take some time to get articles through the process and published.  This particular article took longer as there really was little research literature focused on the sport of men's Fastpitch softball.   For those interested, I have copies of the article saved as .pdf files.  This means you have to have adobe reader to print it off.  Adobe can be downloaded for free from their website.   If interested in obtaining a copy, please feel free to e-mail me at the contact information below.

Our next study will be more examining development ideas and initiatives for men's/boys Fastpitch softball.  We are in the process of building a survey that will be distributed at various Local and national tournaments in the United States and possibly available online for Fastpitch enthusiasts to have a chance to complete.  We are still in the design process of this study.   But, the plan will be to have it ready to go this summer.

I want to particularly thank the following individuals, from the ASA, in their help with this project.   Bill Plummer, Mark Loehrs and ET Colvin were very gracious and cooperative with their time and providing information about the ASA for this study.   I also want to thank my close friend the late Chuck Lockinger, Chicago Metro ASA Player Representative, for his support on this project.   Chuck was critical in helping me fill in the gaps, of the ASA structure, that were not quite clear from my other contacts within the ASA.   As many of us know Chuck was very passionate about the men's game and I personally dedicate this article to his memory.
