St. John's, NL - The Hill United Rock Invitational
This is it fans! The countdown is on for the beginning of what is surely a historical fastball event in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with the Hill United , Rock Invitational Tournament scheduled to kick off on Thursday, June 30, at St.John' legendary Legion Park.
The tournament gets underway with games at 6:00 and 8:00 pm on Thursday night, 6 more games on Friday and wraps up with the final 2 round robin games on Saturday. The playoffs will follow immediately after the completion of the round robin portion of the tournament with the Championship game scheduled for 7:00 pm on Saturday night.
The Rock Invitational will serve as a local qualifying event for the 2017 ISC World Tournament scheduled for Grand Rapids, Michigan , in August of 2017. The three local teams , The Bigs, Kelly's Pub, and the Hitmen will all be playing for a chance to be the first Newfoundland and Labrador based team to compete in the ' world's best club tournament' since the only previous trip to Summerside, PEI, in 1994.
The Hill United Chiefs are excited to bring their ISC World Championship team into Newfoundland and Labrador for the first time and Canada's original ISC Championship team the Toronto Gators makes it a double win for the hardy east coast fans. Chiefs field manager and tournament chair, John Hill said " having these two great teams here to compete against the local boys provides for fans to see some of the best softball players in the world while giving the local boys a chance to test themselves against the best as well." The Chiefs and Gators will go head to head on Friday night so fans get a real treat to watch local boy and Team Canada ace Sean Cleary toe the rubber against arguably the best pitcher in the world in Chiefs Adam Folkard.
There will be many activities happening in St.John's with Canada Day and Memorial Day celebrations this weekend, but for fastball fans it will be a weekend to remember at the ball park. ISC Hall of Fame media and stats legends Al Doran and Gary Baughman will be keeping you abreast of all the action through regular reports on Al's Fastball web site and of course the Hill United Chiefs will be streaming all games live.
