Midland, MI - Junior Black Sox lose to Japan in gold medal game of softball world champs


Japan are the new WBSC Under 19 Men’s World Champions after beating the New Zealand Junior Black Sox 2-1 in Midland, USA.

Japan who had the better of New Zealand throughout the week needed the full seven innings and a clutch RBI single in the seventh inning by Kento Morita to give Japan the win and gold medal.

Japanese pitcher Reo Koyama had another strong performance giving up 4 hits, 3 walks and taking 4 strikeouts. 

A bright spot in the defeat for New Zealand was the pitching of Daniel Chapman who allowed only two runs while striking out nine batters.
 
The second placing gives New Zealand back to back silver medals and this event and will ensure further quality players continue through to national men’s side.
