Kimberly, WI - ASA Report - Hill United Chiefs

  by Larry Lynch (The Hawk)

The Hill United Chiefs relinquished  their 3 year stanglehold on the ASA National‎ Championship crown and congratulate the New York Gremlins on their unblemished weekend of fastball excellence in Kimberly, Wisconsin.

While success is recorded in wins and losses on the field, true champions are remembered by the way they carry themselves, and by the respect they show to their sponsors, to the  game and all of its participants‎.

The Chiefs are proud to be part of this great game we all give up so much of our lives to be a part of and I am personally very proud to share the field with players, coaches and officials who do it for the most part for the true love of the game‎.

Below is an e-mail we received from Ric Thompson of the Hitters team from Kimberly, Wisconsin. Ric, a hard working volunteer, player, coach  and organizer, and his team play in the local men's league in Kimberly.‎  When they knew the ASA Men's National Championship was coming to Kimberly, requested the opportunity to play the Chiefs. His note speaks for itself.

We all talk about the state of the game, good or bad, and we all play teams above or below our caliber, but when we do things for the good of the game we are all winners.

Thanks to Ric for the chance to play his boys, just sorry he wasn't at Hitters bar the following night when we took our entire team, by bus, to share some fellowship with the local sponsors.

Sincerely,
Larry Lynch, and the Hill United Chiefs.

Good evening,
On behalf of my team, Hitter's, I just wanted to take a moment for making an opportunity for us to play the best, a great experience!‎

For our guys to step into the box against the best pitcher in the world  is something that most of us have never gotten the chance to do. As the pitcher, to go against your normal starting line up, was the exact challenge I had hoped for when I asked our ASA rep to be able to play the Hill United Chiefs in the first round of the ASA National tournament.

Your team played with class and showed the whether you are at the top of the rankings or just the local heroes taking the diamond because the tournament is on your home turf, we are all a part of the same small community of fastpitch softball. From the moment I talked to Larry and John at the manager's meeting to the last out, you guys were top notch.

For me personally, for Larry to come over and suggest that the two teams take a picture together, was unexpected and the icing on the cake to an opportunity that ranks up there as one of the best experiences in my 20 year career! I know the rest of my team will say the same.

Once again, thank you for helping make this experience great for a bunch of old guys that may never get to play the best again and, a bunch of young kids that can be inspired as to where this sport can take you. I couldn't have asked for it to happen any better!

Thank you and good luck at the ISC,
Ric Thompson
