The worldwide baseball and softball community welcomed the historic decision of the International Olympic Committee to add baseball and softball to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.  The breaking announcement via @wbsc on Twitter was retweeted over 10k times and was the most popular post on Twitter about the new Olympic sports package, supporting the IOC's objective of connecting with young, digital users and new audiences. The United States defeated Japan, 7-3, in the finale of the WBSC Women's Softball World Championship in Surrey, Canada. The U.S. "Eagles" regain the world crown for the first time since 2010, following back-to-back world titles by Japan in 2012 and 2014. Cuba defends world title, defeats Japan in Final of WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2016 Iwaki
Cuba defeated Japan, 9-4, in the world championship finale of the III WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup at Iwaki Green Stadium to retain the nation's status as world champions in the youth category. In the bronze medal match, the U.S. defeated Panama. Seven nations were represented on U-15 All-World 2016 Team. Viewers from 192 countries and territories watched live-streaming and/or highlights of the premier U-15 sports event through WBSC's official social media channels, totaling more than 2.1 million video views, with over 20 million social media impressions generated. Japan defeated New Zealand, 2-1, in an electric finale to win the 11th WBSC Junior Men's Softball World Championship in Midland, MI, USA. The Japan Junior Men's Softball National Team dominated the competition throughout the tournament, finishing with an undefeated record of 8-0. WBSC released the official Opening Round schedule for the LG Presents WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup 2016 in Gijang, Republic of Korea, which will begin on Saturday, 3 September. The 12 competing nations will each begin the competition For the Title of World Champion playing three games in three days as part of the Opening Round (group stage).
