Japan wins Women's Baseball World Cup 2016, defeats Canada in Final

Japan defeated Canada 10-0 in the world championship finale of the LG Presents WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup 2016 on 11 September in Gijang, Korea. World Cup 2016 MVP Ayami Sato pitched a two-hit, complete-game shutout to extend Japan's win streak to 21 games and five straight world titles. Canada's 2nd Place finish matches the nation's highest ever result for the Women's National Baseball Team in international competition. Venezuela won its first-ever bronze medal in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Chinese Taipei.

The athletes who represented the nation of Venezuela were given a hero's welcome upon their return home, including an official reception and public appearance on national TV with the President Nicolas Madura. The Venezuelan leader announced his support to form a new women's professional baseball league. A total of six nations were represented on the All-World Team. Read more...
WBSC reveals Groups, Official Look for U-23 Baseball World Cup 2016 Monterrey


The design and branding of the WBSC Baseball World Cups is overseen by mega-events branding firm, WORKS.

WBSC unveiled the Groups and Official Look of the inaugural WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, which will be staged in Monterrey, Mexico, from 28 October to 6 November. For the Opening Round group stage, the 12 nations competing For the Title of World Champion in the U-23 category have been drawn into two groups of six, with the top three finishers from each global group advancing to the Super Round group stage.

The world championship in Monterrey will be the top international baseball competition of the year and will distribute 690 world ranking points -- the third-highest award, behind the PREMIER12® and the World Baseball Classic -- to the winner.
Czech Republic retains Men's European Softball title, Denmark gets silver, Belgium bronze
 
The Czech Republic repeated as the Men's European Softball Champion for the third time in a row and their ninth overall Men's European title with a 7-1 victory over Denmark. Ondřej Maleček pitched the complete game for the Czechs in a dynamic game filled with outstanding diving catches and attempts. The Czech players were strong in their offense and very aggressive in their base-running.

Great Britain wins first ever Junior European title in Spain 



The British national teams have never won a single official European Championship in fastpitch softball or baseball until now. Great Britain defeated Italy, 1-0, for their first European Junior Women's Softball title. The finale between Great Britain and Italy was a scoreless game until the final inning; an error and a hit resulted into the only run of the game. 

 

Junior Women's European Championship was held in Sant Boi and Gava, Spain with twelve national teams participating.

Brazil wins South American U-15 Women's Softball Championship



The II U-15 South American Softball Championship concluded in Lima, Peru with Brazil standing atop the podium. Six national teams participated at the regional championship that was organized by the WBSC Americas South Region, CONSURSA.

El Salvador is U-19 Men's Central American Softball Champions

 
El Salvador has retained the title of U-19 Men's Central American champions after beating Guatemala in the final, 10-5, at the "Pablo A. Guzman" field in El Salvador. Nicaragua finished in third place.

In the first two innings of the finale, El Salvador took the lead 7-0, setting the tone of the game. In the fourth inning, Guatemala tried to make it a game scoring four runs. But El Salvador kept them at bay for the back-to-back title.

The teams played a double round robin to determine the positions in the playoffs. Guatemala finished in first place to clinch a spot in the final game, while El Salvador and Nicaragua faced each other in the semifinal, with the winner advancing to the final match.

Japan wins Asia U-18 championship, qualifies for U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017


Top-ranked Japan defeated world No. 4 Chinese Taipei, 1-0, in the Final of the BFA U-18 Asia Baseball Championship 2016 at Taichung Intercontinental Stadium on 4 September. In the bronze medal final, U-18 Asia 2014 champions Korea KO'd China, 14-0.

Along with Asia's U-18 champions, 2nd Place Chinese Taipei and 3rd Place Korea have qualified to compete For the Title of World Champion at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 in Thunder Bay, Canada. These nations join Europe's Netherlands and Italy as five of the 12 qualified nations, with qualifiers for Africa, the Americas and Oceania still to be determined. Read more...

Netherlands tops Spain 3-2 in extra-innings to win Euro Baseball Championship


In front of an electric, sold-out crowd of 3,350, Yurendell De Caster singled with the bases loaded in the bottom the 10th to push the Netherlands past Spain, 3-2, and capture the CEB European Baseball Championship 2016. World No. 10 Netherlands went an undefeated 9-0 in Europe's pinnacle baseball competition, including an extra-inning 6-5 victory over Europe's current top-ranked country, No. 9 Italy, en route to defending their European title -- Netherlands' 22nd in history.

For world No. 21 Spain (7-2), it was the first time in 61 years that the nation advanced to the championship final, using a no-hitter against No. 20 Germany on Saturday to earn a spot in the Finale. Read more...

WBSC mourns loss of Mexican Baseball leader Alonso Perez


WBSC Baseball Division 1st VP Alonso Perez Gonzalez passed away on 9 Sept. in Monterrey, Mexico, at the age of 72. In addition to his role at the world governing body, Mr. Perez was elected as president of the Americas Continent ("Pan-Am Baseball Confederation") in 2015 and also served as president of the Mexican Baseball Federation for over 30 years, organising and hosting several continental and world championships during his tenure.

"This is an extremely sad and shocking day for our sport," said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.  "Baseball has lost a knowledgeable sports leader who helped organise the growth of international baseball competitions and national competitions in Mexico..." Read more...
