Lords back in playoff spot after sweeping Saints

Game One: Durham defeated St. Clair 4-1

Game Two: Durham defeated St. Clair 4-3

OSHAWA, Ont. - In dramatic fashion, the Durham College women's softball team swept their doubleheader over the St. Clair Saints at home on Friday night.

Pinch-hitter Sam MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.) led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk before an RBI single by Justine Pike (Whitby, Ont.) and an error brought MacCallum home to tie the game 3-3.

The next batter, Cassidy Gallant (Bowmanville, Ont.), blasted the ball down the right-field line to bring Pike home from second base to win the 4-3.

Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) was credited as the winning pitcher after coming into the game in relief in the sixth. She threw 1.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits. Sara Pesonen (Mississauga, Ont.) started the game on the mound, throwing 5.1 innings. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out three batters.

Alison Telfer took the loss for St. Clair after her complete game performance, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and two walks.

At the plate Alexandra Senft was the top Saint going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Rebecca Ropp (Milverton, Ont.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Durham.

To open the night Black also earned a 4-1 victory on the mound, throwing a complete game. She allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk.

Alexa Georgiou threw six innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk in the loss for St. Clair.

Jaimie Clarke (Elmvale, Ont.) was 2-for-3 to lead Durham offensively with a triple, RBI and run scored. Sarah Seifried (Drayton, Ont.) was 1-for-2 with and RBI and a walk.

Mackenzie Taylor-Noah was 1-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Saints at the plate.

With the two wins Durham is now tied with St. Clair for second in the OCAA with 26 points, passing Humber and Conestoga who each have 24 apiece for fourth and fifth respectively.

The Lords are next on the road with two crucial games against Conestoga on Sunday in Kitchener. First pitch for the doubleheader is at 1 p.m.
