Black and Legros named Durham College athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. - Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) and Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.) have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week presented by Subway.
Black, a human resources student, played a key role in three of the women's softball wins last week. On Tuesday at home vs. Mohawk she pitched a complete game shutout allowing only four hits and one walk over seven innings of work.
She followed that performance with another complete game victory on Friday night over the St. Clair Saints. Over seven innings she allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk. In the second game of the doubleheader she was credited as the winning pitcher after coming into the game in relief. She threw 1.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits as the Lords walked off the 4-3 game in the bottom of the seventh.
Legros, a mechanical engineering student, had a hot bat all week for the Lords in baseball action. On Saturday in the Lords win over the Humber Hawks he had two RBIs, while picking up two hits in Durham's loss against the Hawks.
On Thursday night at home against Fanshawe he was 1-for-2 with an RBI in their 3-1 loss to close the second half of the doubleheader after the first game where he earned a walk and scored a run.
The baseball team will now be in Etobicoke for the 2016 OCAA men's baseball championship presented by belairdirect.
Black and the softball team are in Kitchener on Monday night for a doubleheader against the Conestoga Condors and hope to hold onto a playoff spot and qualify for the OCAA softball championship presented by belairdirect.
The Durham College athlete of the week awards are presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
