New Zealand White Sox team to compete at Temperzone U19 Boy’s National Championships – January 2017
Â
The campaign starts with a 14 player roster travelling to Hastings to compete in the Temperzone Under 19 Boy’s National Championships from 5-8 January 2017. The unprecedented move of entering a team in such an event is to expose players to a much faster and intense game, comparable to elite international women’s softball. The outing will see the debut of Amy Begg the young Canterbury pitcher who is currently on scholarship at Morgan State University in Baltimore, USA.

International Down Under Fastpitch Series – February 2017
Following on, in mid-December (after the Bev Smith Memorial Premier Women’s Club tournament) a team will be named for the International Down Under Fastpitch Series. The Down Under Series, held from 9-12 February in Blacktown, Sydney, poses very strong competition that features all of Australia’s top line players along with the Japanese National team.
Â
Tour to Japan – July 2017
Looking forward, the New Zealand White Sox program includes a 12-14 day tour to Japan in July, 2017. The tour will include up to 22 squad members and will involve games against strong Japanese domestic teams along with intense training camps. The trip will provide an excellent dress rehearsal for the 2018 World Championships to be held in the Chiba Prefecture, Japan. A large touring squad will expose a wider pool of players to international softball.

New Zealand White Sox Manager & Assistant Coach Named
It is with great pleasure that Softball NZ announces the reappointment of Aroha Metcalf and Tony Simpson through to the 2018 World Championships in Japan. The two incumbents will once again complement Head Coach Kevin Gettins as the team prepares to take on the arduous challenge of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
