Alvinston, ON - - Aces lose to ST Thomas in a very good game!

The  Alvinston Aces turned in a great game in their home opener in Alvinston on Thursday evening.

The Aces led for much of the game, but the game slipped away from them late, as a veteran St. Thomas team clawed their way back to a 3-2 victory.

Ryan Cummings was the winning pitcher for St. Thomas in the game, allowing 2 earned runs with 10 strikeouts.  Taylor Degraw turned in a great performance in his debut with the Aces, as he was perfect through 4 innings, allowing only one walk, and no hits, while striking out 3. Cole Pavey went in in relief, allowing three runs on 2 hits, with 4 strikeouts and 3 free passes, while suffering the loss.

Alvinston scored their 2 runs in the third inning, when Calvin Ritchie reached base via a bunt single, Robbie Black laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Ritchie to second. Andy Triest followed with a bunt single, putting runners on first and third for leadoff hitter Bryan Johnson, who drove home Ritchie on a fielders choice.  Johnson then came around to score on an RBI double by Joe Triest. The Aces led 2-0 until the top of the fifth when St. Thomas scored their first run, and then 2 runs in the seventh inning, gave them the win.

Alvinston travels to Delaware tomorrow night for an 8:30pm game, where they will look to get their first win of the young season
