Toronto, ON - Less Than 2 Weeks To Go! - 2nd Scout Logistics Shoot-Out, June 29 to July 1 at legendary Dieppe Park

Lorne Swartz, Roddy Wetherell and the BridalBash Foundation‎ once again bring fastball to the forefront in the 2nd Scout Logistics Shoot-Out, June 29 to July 1 at legendary Dieppe Park in Toronto.

The Shoot-Out concept brings together some of the great Ontario fastball players of the past 4 decades in a charity event based on camaraderie, competition and community. All prize money goes directly to 4 worthy charities and players and special guests are rewarded with yet another chance to celebrate a game which has given so many so much.

Fans are welcome to share a truly memorable weekend, share stories and watch some arguably great old time fastball.

THE CHARITIES

With less than 2 weeks left before we throw out the first pitch to kick off the 2017 edition of the Scout Shootout we wanted to highlight some additional important information that helps to make this event so special.

The teams have selected the charities they each will be playing for; Hawkeye's Homeless have selected "Hockey Helps the Homeless", Bobby's Angels will be playing for the "ALS Society", Stycks has chosen "Kids Sport Ontario" and the Codgers will be playing for "Jumpstart".

THE AMBASSADORS

Each team has selected a team Ambassador who will be with each team throughout the tournament to help support the managers and players and bring their many years of experience, knowledge and fastpitch acumen to this event.

We are honored to have the following 4 gentlemen be a part of the 2017 Scout Shootout:

Jack Fireman- Jack has had a profound effect on the fastpitch scene locally and throughout the world. His influence and support of world class fastpitch programs and players in Canada, the US, Israel, New Zealand and Australia knows no boundaries. A 3 time ISC World Champion, ISC Legends Champion, World Masters Games Gold medalist, 3 time Canadian Champion and 4 time Maccabi Games Gold Medalist, Jack has also been inducted into the ISC Hall of Fame and the Israel Softball Hall of Fame. It's an honor to have Jack be a part of the Shootout and acting as ambassador to the Hawkeye's Homelesssquad.

Vere Small - Having started playing cricket in Barbados as a young boy, Vere seamlessly transitioned his many skills to the game of fastpitch.  A feared hitter, Vere could beat you in many ways. Whether it was with his speed, power or defense Vere always came through in the clutch. Known for his easy going manner, Vere's competitiveness and will to win was second to none. Vere is one of the nicest and beloved individuals anyone could ever meet in the sport. Always willing to talk about ball over a rum Vere takes the time to share his experiences and successes with old and young alike. We are extremely pleased to have Vere Small as the Ambassador for the Codgers team.

Bobby Smith - A member of the 1972 World Champion Dynes Jewelers out of Richmond Hill, Bobby was a fierce and feared competitor. Never willing to give an inch, Bobby always played the game hard and never took an inning or an at bat off. He would do whatever it took to win and if that meant that someone got hurt in the process then so be it. A deadly hitter, Bobby was equally adept with his glove. While Bobby portrays a calm and gentle demeanor, he is a proud, loyal and tenacious player who would defend any teammate regardless of the situation. He is still active in the game as a playing manager of the Bingo's fastball team. Bobby's Angelsare humbled and privileged to have Bobby Smith as ambassador to their team.

Frank Marshall - A true legend in the fastball world, with a career that spans over 6 decades of playing,  Frank's pitching exploits are universally known including beating the legendary Eddie Feigner and the famed King and his Court team 4 out of 5 times . An original Scout Shootout "Star of the Week", Frank continues to share his pitching knowledge and experiences with veteran players, up and comers, and both boys and girls who are still learning the fundamentals of the game. Among his many accomplishments and awards, Frank is a 3 time Bulova Watch Champion, and in 2012 Frank was inducted into the Bulova Watch Hall of Fame. It is with pride and admiration that the Stycks team welcome Frank Marshall as ambassador to their team.

THE ASSISTANT COACHES

To assist the managers of each team we have added an additional coach to help to keep their players in line. These coaches all have distinctive fastpitch resumes that make their participation in this event a must have.

Mike "Juice" Giusti cut his fastball teeth on the Dieppe diamonds for many years. Living across the street from the park, Juice was a ball rat from the get go. Watching and learning from the best Juice went on to have a long and successful ball career both as a player and coach culminating in him winning the ISC Legends Championship in 2015 with the Durham Bulls. Juice will provide his inspiration and never ending chant of "take iiiiit" to each batter his team faces. The Stycks team are happy to take from the Holy Cross Catholic School city champs, Mike Giusti to help coach their group to a Scout Shootout Championship.

Mark" Coach" Green has the perfect name to be added to the Shootout. Having played ball and coached in many different leagues throughout his fastpitch career Coachie is both a beloved and not so beloved individual. Coachie's always there to offer support and encouragement to his players and is a tireless supporter of kids sports. But to play against him is to feel the wrath of a barrage of vitriolic comments and put downs. Coachie brings an ISC Legends Championship to the dugout of the Hawkeye's Homelessteam. Currently on the DL we look forward to seeing Coachie in their dugout for the Shootout leading them to a Championship.

Paul "BJ" Foucault, a man you don't want to see knocking at your door late at night is the gentle giant of the Shootout. His fun loving and do anything for anyone in need personality make him a wanted commodity by every team in the Shootout. One year removed from his ISC Legends Championship and 2 years from his batting title in the same tournament, Beej brings a winning attitude and a positive attitude that will keep the players on the Codgers in all facets of the game. His presence will make it difficult to beat them.

Steve "Trots" Trotman needs no introduction. Having learned the game on the barren playgrounds of the east end of Toronto, Trots rose up the fastball ranks to quickly become one of the most prominent players in the Toronto fastball scene. Known for a strong baseball IQ, Steve understood the nuances of the game and the tendencies of those he played against. This knowledge and understanding allowed him to exploit his opponent's weaknesses to his and ultimately his team's advantage. A superb hitter, Trots was never a player a pitcher wanted to face. His intelligence and ability to communicate his ideas to the players on Bobby's Angelswill bode extremely well for any success they have.

THE GOOD STUFF

Throughout the tournament, Pat Acton and his Richmond Hill novice girls fastpitch team will be providing a variety of scrumpdilicious BBQ treats to be sold as a fundraiser for their team. Please help to support their endeavours to help fund their team. It's another way for us to give back to a sport that has given us all so much. Keep it growing at the grassroots level.

Following the final out of the tourney, there will be the cheque presentations to each team for their respective charities. We would appreciate that all team players and personnel stay around for these presentations as that is the reason we are playing these games! Following that will be the spectacular tournament after party with details to follow.
