Fingal, ON - - Aces Win In Fingal 8 -1 To Take League Title !

The Alvinston Aces traveled to Fingal on Wednesday evening, with the hope of not being a statistic, as they held a 2-0 series lead, before St. Thomas fought back with two consecutive victories to even the series and send it to the brink. A game 5 loss would have been a tough pill to swallow, after a 2-0 series lead for Alvinston.

On this night, Alvinston was ready. In the opening inning, Shields singled, and Joe Triest did the same, reaching base via an infield single. Rowan Lam then hammered a ball up the middle to score Shields for the opening run. Joe Triest then scored via a Ryan Chapman groundout, for a 2-0 lead. Then with 2 out, Aaron Stocking reached base via an error, which allowed Lam to score, for an all important 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning.

In the second inning, Andy Triest reached base via an error, and then advanced to third via a Shields single.  Andy then scored the fourth Alvinston run, when his brother Joe hit him home with a single. With Shields and Joe Triest on base, Lam was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.  And then boom...Ryan Chapman hammered a grand slam, making it 8-0, and giving the Aces a firm lead early in the game, that they would not relinquish.

Degraw went to work on the mound, making outs via the strikeout, but also leaning on his defence to make plays behind him, which they did.  Chris Wismer touched him up for a solo home run in the third inning, but that was all, as Alvinston went on to win game 5, and the playoff championship of the South Middlesex Men's Fastball League, with an 8-1 mercy in five innings.

Degraw earned the win, his ninth of the playoffs, after allowing three hits and three walks, with 8 strikeouts in 5 innings of work.  Overall he was 9-2 in the playoffs allowing 22 runs against in 11 playoff games in 68 innings pitched. He was our horse and MVP of the playoffs!

A great team effort, in front of lots of Alvinston fans who made the trek to Fingal to cheer us on in game 5! Thanks for helping us earn our first South Middlesex Men's Fastball League Championship!

Thanks Chico
