Owen Sound, ON - - Glenn Verge Passing
It is wish great sadness that the fastball world has lost another player, coach, sponsor and ambassador for our great game. Glenn Verge passed away yesterday and his family and close friends wanted the fastball world t know.  Glenn is an ISC Hall of Fame member and was instrumental in fastball in Ontario, most recently as a coach and sponsor to the Owen Sound Selects. Funeral arrangements have not been made public as of today.

Glenn Verge, Newmarket ON
Â
For close to half a century Glenn Verge has coached, managed and sponsored fastball teams in Ontario, notably in Newmarket and Owen Sound. In the late 1970s, withencouragement from ISC founder Carrol Forbes and Owen Sound’s Lloyd Simpson, Glenn’s
Newmarket ON Rays team became interested in the International Softball Congress.
Â
In 1980, the Rays and Grimsby ON Peach Kings competed at the ISC World Tourney in Tempe AZ. Both teams were competitive (Grimsby finished 3rd behind Aurora IL and Phoenix
AZ), and their participation created controversy in Canada, specifically in Ontario.
Â
Fastball administrators deemed that players who competed in the ISC would not be allowed to play in OASA (Ontario) and Canadian Championships.
Â
Glenn lobbied and led opposition to the ruling, and through judicial courts was able to get the suspensions lifted.
Â
Glenn’s efforts were instrumental in Ontario - based teams competing in the ISC and provided the current opportunity for Ontario teams to claim the title for the last six years (2008 -
2013).
