USA Softball Junior Men’s National Team prepares for 2018 season at Las Vegas Road Trip XI tournament
OKLAHOMA CITY — The 2018 USA Softball Junior Men’s National Team (JMNT) has arrived in Las Vegas, Nev., where the team will participate in the Las Vegas Road Trip XI tournament. Taking to the field for the first time since the roster was announced in January, the JMNT will participate in the three-game guarantee tournament in preparation for this summer’s World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Men’s World Championship (JMWC).
“I’m looking forward to seeing the team play together for the first time,†said USA Softball JMNT Head Coach, Tyron McKinney. “This weekend will help them bond together as a team and get that team chemistry going. It’s about building on those little things that make good teams play well. We’ve got a lot of work to do in not a lot of time as we prepare for the World Championship this July.â€
The JMNT will open the tournament with a 12 p.m. PT game on April 6 against the Oklahoma Sykos. The remainder of the schedule for the U.S. will be determined by bracket play. With Tyron McKinney (Ashland, Ohio) at the helm of the Junior Men's Program, the U.S. coaching staff also includes Tony Aresco (Stoneham, Mass.), Mike Armitage (Normal, Ill.) and Bob Piddock (Castro Valley, Calif.).
The Las Vegas Road Trip XI tournament is one of the events in which members of the 2018 JMNT will compete as the team prepares for the WBSC JMWC. The final 17-player roster for the 2018 USA Softball JMNT will be determined prior to the WBSC JMWC, which will be held July 7-15 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. A complete schedule for the 2018 JMNT will be announced at a later date.
